Employment Locate: Ask Us First
Finding where someone works is harder than finding where they live. Tell us about your file first, and we will reply with whether an employer locate is realistic for it.
Who This Page Is For
Send an employment inquiry here if you are:
- A judgment creditor who needs the debtor’s current employer to serve a wage garnishment.
- An employer or business trying to reach a former employee who has moved on to a new job.
- An attorney who needs a party’s or a witness’s place of work for a case.
We provide the research. The garnishment, the service of papers and any collection are handled by you or your attorney.
Why We Ask About Employment First
An address can usually be confirmed from many public records at once. An employer cannot. There is no public registry of who works where, and payroll records are not public, so an employer has to be pieced together and cross-checked rather than looked up.
That makes the outcome depend heavily on the identifiers you already hold. A full name with a date of birth and a recent address gives us far more to work with than a name alone. Cash work, self-employment, gig work and a recent job change can all leave a thin trail.
So we look at your file first and tell you honestly whether an employer locate is a realistic request.
What to Send in Your Inquiry
- The person’s full name, with a middle name or initial if you know it.
- Their last known address, and roughly when they lived there.
- Their date of birth, if you have it.
- Your purpose and the case details, for example the court, case number and date of your judgment.
- Anything you already know about their work: a past employer, their trade or job title, a work location or a company vehicle.
A first name, a nickname or a social media handle on its own is not enough to start from. The person must be located in the United States or a U.S. territory.
United States and U.S. Territories Only
We accept employment locate inquiries only for people located in the United States or its territories. We are not a consumer reporting agency, and nothing we provide is a consumer report.
If you need someone’s employment checked for a hiring, credit or rental decision, that calls for a consumer reporting agency.
